I got a call today froma real estate agent. He and I had been in a networking group together quite a while ago. He was working on getting a listing for a nice home. He loved the home and location. But, there were papers throughout the home. The Real Estate Stagers had been the and there was nothing that could be done until the place was cleaned up from the clutter of paper every where.

Ahh…the perfect client for File and Go!

I went in to take care of some business at a local company and there was a bit of a panic. Though they professionally handled my issue, they said there might be a delay due to the fact that a key employee was no longer there. She had left the company. There was no mention of why, but that really is not so important.

They had 30 pages of handwritten notes of the “details” of how this critical employee did her job. I am sure it was written quickly. Because this employee knew she was leaving, it most probably was not accurate or detailed.

I offered to assist when a new employee was hired to write a proper process and procedure manual.

Get the details of your employees job, especially key employees, on paper before there is an emergency. Plan Ahead. Make it part of each employees job description to write process and procedure for the tasks in each department.

Kids off to College? Parents far away from you?

How can YOU be the one to get that important phone call at that CRITICAL time?

My Dad lives in Florida. He is 85 and in great health. We have had the important conversations and have a general plan in place for when and if he needs assistance.

I was worried, though, because he walks alone on the beach. If there was an emergency, who would be called? Would anyone know who he was? How we could find him besides calling all the hospitals in the County? Then I began to consider what would happen if I could not reach him at home? I have a telephone number of a friend who lives near him in the Winter…but what about the Summer months?

We are making a plan. Looking forward to issues that may happen in the future. When and if “something” happens, we WILL BE PREPARED!

September is National Preparedness Month

When I was growing up, my Uncle Mike taught me how to play the guitar. He only spoke Italian, a musical Mr. Magoo, so I learned how to understand things through the transfer of his thoughts-sort of like the medium of the ether that carries things for the computer, body language-his big sea blue eyes peering out from his thick black eyeglasses widening if I hit the wrong note and then smiling like the soothing surething that the ocean’s waves know to come in and out. The problem is I also learned- as the chance of life would have it-that I could not live by leaving things to what will be, will be. I must TAKE INSPIRED ACTION to be who I am and live a purposeful, victorious life. One’s business in life is, presumably, to achieve success. To be successful, you must find peace of mind, acquire the material needs of life, and, above all, attain happiness. All of these evidences, states Napoleon Hill, begin in the form of thought impulses.

You are the master of your own earthly destiny just as surely as you have the power to control your own thoughts. You may influence, direct, and eventually control your own environment, making your life what you want it to be. On the other hand, you may neglect to exercise the privilege that is yours-to make your life to order, thus casting yourself upon the sea of circumstance, where you will be tossed like an empty shell on the waves of the ocean.

People who do not succeed have one distinguishing trait in common: they know all the reasons for failure, and have what they believe to be airtight alibis to explain away their own lack of achievement. Why do people cling to their pet alibis? Because they create them; Habits are difficult to break, especially when they provide justification for something we do.

I just had the privilege of assisting a friend choose to end medical treatment and go into hospice. I did help her make the decision only by helping her talk through what her options were. I did have the Health Care Power of Attorney though I did not have to use the power given to me because my friend was able to make her own medical decisions. But she did have documentation in place to make sure her wishes were carried out if she was not able to make them. I was there to make sure that her wishes were carried out-if a Doctor felt she was not capable. I was there to support her in her decision as a friend AND as a person who could carry out her wishes if need be. We all should have documents in place to make this possible.

40 years ago July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong took first steps on the surface of the moon. During the first moon landing, one of the astronauts suggested that everyone pause for a few moments and think about the events of the last few hours and give thanks.
As soon as he placed his foot on the moon, in a very real sense he did it for each of us. With that one step, he broke through the veil of impossibility, doubt, and skepticism revealing infinite spiritual potentialities in man.
We can be lifted into orbit on our way to the accomplishment of what we may have thought was impossible with belief, persistent effort, and inspired action.
These three steps took us to the moon, didn’t they? First, there was tremendous belief in the minds of only a few people. Gradually, more and more people became impassioned with and believed deeply in the possibility of a successful space flight, with the moon as their goal. Persistent effort was the next step. Goddard took failures in stride and kept on working. At Cape Kennedy, the scientists continued to work while most of us who watched the final success were unaware of the perpetual activity there. Increasing knowledge of universal principles also played a part. The space scientists and technicians kept experimenting, studying, and sharing information. When they first started the project, some of the principles and methods used to land on the moon had not yet been discovered. But this didn’t delay or discourage them. They took inspired action, kept working, and the new methods were discovered as they needed them.
Let us relate these three steps to the conquest of inner space and the mastery it gives to us. What is it that seems impossible to you? What in your life seems just as impossible to you as a moon landing seemed to people 40 years ago? Whatever it is, you have to believe with all your heart that it is possible-no matter how impossible it may look to human sense, to the masses of people. You have to desire it deeply in the belief that is somehow possible.
When I was younger growing up, I felt the freedom of wanting to do everything and all at once, before the moments were lost. My oldest brother told me something which I continue to remind myself of today, “One step at a time.” But we must take that first step. I remember my mother and younger brother sitting at the dining room table with the clear plastic tablecloth to protect the linen underneath watching that first moonwalk on our black and white small portable TV and feeling an exhilarating sense of infinite possibilities right then.
Look up at our moon tonight. Looking up at the night’s sky, I may not be able to count the multitude of stars, but the longer I look, the more I see. Each one is a beacon of light. I may never know when my light is inspiring someone else along his or her own way. I do know that I feel joy as I consider that I am brought to each situation in my life for a purpose. I am grateful!

I don’t know about you, but I am being emotional about the life and death of Michael Jackson. And that’s okay. I watch and read the stories put before us into the glimpse of his life. We did not know much really about him before, and now we grasp at information that others piece together to give us a sense of what his life might have been like. He was the extraordinary soundtrack of my life. Today Michael Jackson will be put to rest.

Growing up for me was all about Michael, what he wore, the songs he sang, how he gave us all something grand to look at with each performance and imagine life beyond what we are actually living and what could be; The possibilities of magical moments, not looking to our past, or our future, but living right now through intention.

Yes, I am one of the Women Who Loved Michael…Liz Taylor, Diana Ross, Princess Di, Brooke Shields, Lisa Marie Presley…and Lorayn DeLuca. As Michael grew up, so did I. He reinvented himself as the music styles changed, yet all the while keeping his own style. Some might not have agreed with his personal life, he was different-special-full of love, and he was doing the best he knew with what he had at the time.

He was a music legend-seeming larger than life. Where there is love, I’ll be there-(I still cry when I hear that song).Rock with Me. The Man in the Mirror-these words touch my heart like the quote from Gandhi which is my intention to live by and have framed in my home to remind me- “Be the change you want to see in the world”. This change can be hard to take by most people. They want things to be easy, run smoothly, not make waves, and follow the majority-leave things as they are-thinking if we consistently go to our churches nothing bad will happen. Things need to be shaken up a bit in life- with integrity and truth. It would be absolutely boring if we were all the same. How would discoveries be made? Time moves forward with or without us.

Life is about corrections. How we creatively deal with what happens. How resilient we are. What we do with our talents and what we know and to share these gifts. We are continuously learning and growing. My post graduate certificate was in Conflict Resolution through a wonderful program by Dr. Maria Volpe at New York City’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I was working at the New York Police Department and wanted to know more about how peace can be made in this world. How I could make a difference one person at a time. Learning the tools- like building a house with a strong foundation-to bring people together and find common ground-no matter what. I grew up in a large Italian family where yelling and fighting were the norm. One day when I was invited to a school friend’s home for dinner, I witnessed actual pleasantness, calmness, meaningful conversation, acknowledgement of good doings. I admit the food was not as good as in my home, but the nature of what I learned and what I wanted more of kept me going back. I was the only Catholic Italian besides Roseanne Reina attending a Jewish temple for school because there were no elementary schools in our area built yet. My father was building houses that made neighborhoods on Long Island; people were coming fast and furious at that time out there from Brooklyn and Queens same as where our family ventured from.

It’s about your legacy. What do you want to leave after you go? Michael died suddenly way too young. Where was his will? Was it legal, current? What was documented so that his things can go to who he wanted or sold for the right price? Did he let his family and others decide for him what to do with his estate? Planning ahead for these things saves a lot of heartache for those left behind.
